Sustainable Community Strategy 2009-2026

What is it?

What the government says: "The Local Government Act 2000 places on principal local authorities (County and District Councils for Buckinghamshire) a duty to prepare 'community strategies', for promoting or improving the economic, social, environmental well-being of their areas, and contributing to the achievement of sustainable development of the UK."

What does this mean locally?

The Buckinghamshire Sustainable Community Strategy 2009-26 provides the framework for joint action by the public, private and voluntary organisations in the county. It has an ambitious and long term vision for Buckinghamshire and seeks to promote prosperity and tackle inequality. Some aspirations within it will take many years to achieve. The strategy does not try to address all the concerns of local people or every aspect of the work undertaken by the various partners. It focuses on the highest priorities where partnership working can have the greatest positive impact. By working to the common priorities, and by sharing ideas, resources and solutions, we stand a better chance of meeting local needs and aspirations and making a real difference.

The strategy is structured around five themes which reflect the views and needs of residents in communities across Buckinghamshire.

The themes are:

  1. Thriving Economy
  2. Sustainable Environment
  3. Safe Communities
  4. Health & Wellbeing
  5. Cohesive & Strong Communities
