Buckinghamshire Safeguarding Adults Board - Subgroups

                Board Map

Following a restructure of the board in November 2016 Buckinghamshire Safeguarding Adults Board went from eight sub-committees to four subgroups. The idea of this was to make more effictive use of board members time with a reduce number of subgroups but more tightly aligned to the board's business plan.

The four subgroups are as follows:-

1) Safeguarding Adults Review Subgroup: -

Under the provisions of the Care Act 2014 all Safeguarding Adults Boards  are required to undertake a Safeguarding Adults Review  overseen by an Independent Report Writer in order to learn lessons and improve practice when a situation arises with a person in their area who requires care and support, where doubts are raised about the quality of service they received and deserved. The key aim of the Safeguarding Adults Review is not to investigate or apportion blame, but to examine professional practice and adjust this practice in light of lessons learnt. These lessons are vital to reduce the risk of occurrence.

The purpose of this subgroup is to consider all reqests for Safeguarding Adults Reviews and then if necessary to commission reviews, manage and monitor the reviews, keep the board informed of any reviews and to make sure that any action plans from reviews are completed.

2) Training Subgroup: -

The aim of this subgroup is to ensure there is a skilled workforce to help protect adults at risk and that there is awareness across all organisations, including the independent and voluntary sectors about what constitutes safeguarding and what to do if abuse is suspected. This group is responsible for developing the training competency framework and ensuring that this remains up to date and informed by practice. It has a responsibility for ensuring that there is a workforce that can suitably respond to performance and safeguarding concerns and that high professional standards of practice are developed and maintained

 3) Policy, Procedures and Practice Subgroup:-

This subgroup has been established to ensure that local standards, policies and procedures are in place in relation to safeguarding adults in vulnerable situations. These will reflect national standards, regulations, guidance and case law and will apply to all statutory agencies across Buckinghamshire. This group also ensures that the importance of safeguarding adults is included in other policy documents, such as domestic violence and safeguarding children.

4) Quality and Performance:-

This subgroup enables the Board to oversee the performance and quality of its safeguarding activity across all areas of responsibility. It has been set up to develop a framework which ensures there are effective and accountable safeguarding adults quality performance indicators and monitoring systems in place. It produces regular reports to the Board which ensures that a consistent approach and good quality of safeguarding provision is maintained across all partner organisations. It will also enable the Board to consider trends in safeguarding activity and how to respond.

5) Community Engagement Group

This is a new group and is going to be developed at the end of 2018.
