Overseas trained teacher programme (OTTP)

Teacher

Working with teachers who have qualified overseas to gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in England.

The Overseas Trained Teacher Programme (OTTP) provides a route by which those who qualified as teachers overseas outside the European Economic Area (EEA) may gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) in England.

Overseas qualified teachers are only eligible to work in England as temporary, unqualified teachers and then for only four years.  The programme allows the teacher to gain Qualified Teacher Status in the UK and enables them to teach indefinitely, which benefits the teacher, the school and the children.

The applicant finds a teaching position in a school and the scheme will provide them with an individual training and assessment programme. This will ultimately lead to a qualification to teach in England permanently.

This scheme allows our schools to retain high quality teachers with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
