Bucks activity project

Action for Children
Action for Children is one of the UK’s largest children’s charities, and our values – equality, passion and hope – ensure that children are at the centre of everything we do.
Action for Children Buckinghamshire Activity Project
Action for Children run the local service Bucks Activity Project, which was set up to provide play and leisure opportunities for children and young people with disabilities in response to the review of the provision of services to children with disabilities by Dr Philippa Russell in 1999. In the review it was recognised that children with disabilities and their families are potentially at risk of social exclusion due to poor access to services, venues and related social networks.
“Bucks Activity Project” are running many exciting opportunities for short breaks in Buckinghamshire after receiving Aiming High for Disabled Children funding. See below for the different services available for your child:
Our Services:
- Holiday Activities
Bucks Activity Project runs fun packed activity days during the school holidays. This summer they have a huge range of fun things to do such as water sports, Legoland, London Zoo and cinema trips. The activities range in age appropriateness but there is something for anyone aged between 5-19 years old. - Weekend Breaks
Bucks Activity Project will be offering weekend breaks across the county. The sessions will be for three hours and a small charge of £4 per child or young person will apply.
5-12 year olds
Will provide quality activities with trained staff on hand to support the children to engage in fun and leisure. There will be enough staff to ensure some quiet time if required. Activities may include music, crafts, sporting activities and occasional day trips. We will find out the views of the young people as we realise they will not all want to do the same activities.
12-19 year olds
Will also be offering locally based schemes, again staffed by a high level of trained employees who will be able to understand each young person’s needs and support them to enjoy quality leisure time.

Outreach
One of the newest services is “Outreach”, which means supporting a disabled child or young person in society to take part in an activity of their choosing to help reach their full potential.
Sometimes it can be daunting to go to a new club like scouts or brownies on your own so an inclusion worker could go along with your child to make sure that they settle in and get the most out of their experiences.
Action for Children with the help of Abbotts Care, who have 15 years experience, want to support children and young people to have full access to play and leisure facilities in their local community. Action for Children will make sure that the young person is matched to a care worker who has similar interests and hobbies, but also the necessary skills and experience to suit your family’s needs. To begin with they may spend time in your home so everyone can get to know each other. As the relationship develops, workers will share and enjoy an activity chosen by the young person, which can mean learning essential skills to increase independence and having a lot of fun together.
