Foxes are widespread throughout Britain. They are typically found in woodland and open country, but they are very adaptable and their presence in urban areas is increasing.

They usually have red/brown fur but this can vary and black, silver and albino animals have been seen. Their long, bushy tail (brush) is often tipped with white fur and they have a white chest.

Foxes live in underground dens or earths. They mate during the winter and females give birth to four to seven cubs in the spring. They are opportunist feeders and eat small mammals, birds, insects, earthworms, fruits, berries and scraps left by humans.
